NFL kicker raves about Sports+ Performance
April 20, 2008
Nick Novak is a field goal kicker for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to the Chiefs, the former University of Maryland kicker has spent two seasons playing for the NFL’ Washington Redskins. During the NFL off-season Nick works out at Lafayette Sports Center. This winter Nick enrolled in Sports+ Performance six-week “Kicking Power” program and he is amazed with his leg strength improvement. “Of all program’s this is the best, I loved it,” said Nick. “I feel confident that I will be able to increase my kicking distance and become a better NFL kicker.” Nick is a brother of FC Indiana men’s team midfielder Chris Novak and got involved with Sports+ Performance upon his brothers recommendation. “I did not know what to expect in the beginning but from now on I will do all my training with Sports+ Performance. “Throughout the year we work with high school and college age football players. Nick joined us in February and in eighteen sessions he made rapid increases in his kicking power as well as core strength,” said Sports+ Performance Director Petkov. Petkov is no stranger to working with elite athletes. Some of the Sports+ Performance past and present clients include: - The 2000 Olympic Triple Jump Champion Tereza Marinova (Bulgaria) - The 2002 European Biathlon Champion Juliane Doll (Germany) - The 2004 Olympic 100m and 200m finalist Ivet Lalova (Bulgaria) - The 2007 National 5,000m indoor and 10,000m outdoor NAIA Champion Petrana Hristova-Petkova (USA)
Central Catholic wide receiver first at Nike Midwest Combine
April 18, 2008
In 2007 Mike Murphy a junior at Lafayette Central Catholic attended the Nike Midwest Combine and finished somewhere in the bottom half of the 700 high school participants in the 40 yards test. This winter Mike decided that he needed help in order to really prepare. He enrolled in Sports+ Performance Speed Training program. “I knew I needed help in order to get noticed by college coaches and I heard about Lafayette Sports Center’s Sports+ Performance. I decided to give it a shot,” said Mike. What happened next is almost incredible. After training with Sports+ Performance for six weeks, Mike ran 4.48 at the combine and finished number 1 of the 700 elite high school football players. His time is fourth best in the country according to results published by Nike on its regional combine websites. “I really appreciate what coach Petkov has done to help me improve, I surprised everyone at the combine,” said Mike. The 5’8”, 160lbs wide receiver is receiving a lot of attention from college coaches, “I started getting a lot of handwritten letters, the attention I am getting has definitely increased since the combine.” What’s next for Murphy? “I will train with Sports+ Performance and want to get the best time in the country in 09.” This year the best time of 4.33 was ran by a Florida high school junior but don’t bet against Murphy.
